Junior Maggie MacKinnon and sophomore Olivia Lozier, president and secretary of ܽƵ’s Feminists United club, are working to foster intersectional feminism on campus to create a culture of empowerment.

Importance of Connection, for a Cause: “I’ve learned the importance of still being able to connect with friends, peers, and club members. I’m grateful that we can meet in-person at Roger and have access to rooms that are COVID-friendly. It brings some normalcy back to college life. We can spread our mission statement across campus and educate others on intersectional feminism, and still put on events," MacKinnon said.

Feminists United created a poster campaign on inspiring feminist icons and events for Women’s History Month in March.

Feminists Who Inspire, History That Empowers: “We knew we wanted to do something special for Women’s History Month, and we thought it would be a good idea to honor the feminists who inspire us and events in history that empower us. The E-board came up with the poster idea and brought it to our general members. We had a day during our club meeting where we all made posters together,” said Lozier.

Involved On Campus, In Person: “It’s really nice to have clubs, especially during this time,” said Lozier. “You feel like you can still be involved on campus, even though everything is very different right now. It’s been very exciting that we’ve been able to have in-person meetings because we get more of that one-on-one connection with people that we’re close with.”

MacKinnon, of Franklin, Mass., is majoring in Political Science and Communication & Media Studies. Lozier, of Ledyard, Conn., is majoring in Psychology and Cultural Studies.

Feminists United celebrated Women's History Month 2021 through a series of posters celebrating inspirational feminists and empowering moments in history.
